Roger, Roll

Roger, Roll is the solo project of Eric Peterson, a multi-instrumentalist originally from Denver, Colorado.

The name Roger, Roll is a reference to the roll program, an aerodynamic maneuver that changes the altitude of a spacecraft.

Roger Roll Discovery refers to a phrase used in NASA's mission control communications during the launch of the Space Shuttle Discovery, particularly during its final mission, STS-133. The term "Roger Roll" was the standard acknowledgment from Mission Control (Houston) to the shuttle crew when the orbiter completed its roll maneuver shortly after liftoff, aligning itself for its ascent to orbit.

The phrase has become synonymous with the start of a shuttle's journey into space.

Early life

Peterson grew up primarily playing guitar, but quickly expanded his musical capabilities to include drums, bass, violin, and many other instruments.

He has been recording music solo since his early teens.

Through his older sister, he met Patrick Kelly, who introduced him to many other musicians with whom he collaborated frequently. These collaborators included drummer Nick Cox (White Dynamite, Sirr Issac Lyme, The Fifth Utility), Lucas Johannes (also from Denver band Action Packed Thrill Ride), and others.

Musical Style

For all of Roger, Roll's recordings, Peterson plays every instrument, records, mixes, and masters the recordings.

Roger, Roll sits squarely in the indie rock genre, often blending technical finger picking, a high tenor voice, and lo-fi drums and other instruments, to create a familiar and comforting musical atmosphere.

Currently

Roger, Roll's last known recordings date from pre-2020, when Peterson moved to Sweden to further his career as a software engineer, based in Spotify's Stockholm location.

Peterson currently resides with his wife Anna, a woodworker and artist, and their child in rural Sweden.
